Introduction to ASC

Keumjinsusan which has been raising mussels for more than 50 years while protecting the sea of Changpo Bay since the early 1970s, is striving to become an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible seafood company to pass on a healthy and rich sea to our children.

Importance of aquaculture

The importance of aquaculture in the age of climate and food crisis.

Seafood is already an important source of protein for about 3 billion people, more than half of the world's population. However, marine products caught in the sea are rapidly decreasing due to marine pollution, climate crisis, overfishing, congestion and illegal fishing. On the other hand, the demand for marine products continues to increase. It is aquaculture that narrows the demand-supply gap for seafoodThe proportion of seafood products in the world has steadily increased from 7% in 1974 to 26% in 1994 and 39% in 2004, surpassing the consumption of marine products caught in the sea for the first time in 2014.

In Korea, annual marine production totaled 923,477 tons in 2016, the first drop below 1 million tons since the record began in 1973. On the other hand, aquaculture output reached a maximum of 1,8377,600 tons (WWF-Korea 2018). products like this. Today, aquaculture is the world's fastest-growing food production sector, with about 60% of the world's edible fish coming from fish farms (FAO).

International Accreditation ASC

Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries International Accreditation ASC

As the importance of aquaculture increases in terms of global fisheries supply, voices are rising that the aquaculture industry should become an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible industry. The ASC (Aculture Stewardship Council) International Certification, launched in 2010, certifies sustainable aquaculture products produced with environmental and social responsibility through rigorous screening of standards and gives eco-labels. ASC certification is a relatively recent international certification, but it is recognized as the most reliable international certification of aquaculture and fisheries products. By acquiring ASC international certification around the world, it can prove the sustainability of aquaculture and the safety of fisheries foods, which is spreading the perception that it is an essential certification for the global distribution industry and buyers.

KeumJinsusan's efforts to create a healthy and rich sea.

Keumjinsusan is a fisheries and aquaculture company with 50 years of history that has been cultivating mussels since the early 1970s. In addition to mussel farming, about 140 kinds of healthy and fresh marine products are now being exported nationwide through the distribution network of Keumjinsusan

Keunjinsusan has been farming in Changpo Bay for the past 50 years and has been experiencing changes in the marine environment of the sea more than anyone else. In the meantime, we have made various attempts to develop and replace eco-friendly buoys and improve processing facilities to grow better mussels. From 2020, we are working to obtain ASC Mussel International Certification, and in November 2020, we obtained ASC CoC certification for processing and distributing ASC certified marine products for the first time in Gyeongnam. Keumjinsusan is also working today to improve and preserve the sea environment of Changpo Bay and to become a more responsible company for the community and fishing village community.
